Workshop task: Adolf Loos Club

There is one of the flats in Pilsen, designed by Adolf Loos, which is not renovated now. Actually, nobody knows what to do with that flat now. There is a spatial sequence of the three main living-rooms, where the original sheathing and a fireplace was not removed. All the other rooms are destroyed. This flat is the site for our Workshop task.

The IMIAD Students make a general Research about Adolf Loos and Pilsen. This is divided in different topics:

  • The architectural language of Adolf Loos for designing flats.
  • The way of Furnishing by Adolf Loos
  • Overview of the Pilsen based Works, the status of the Pilsen Work in Loos oeuvre.
  • Adolf Loos and Pilsen, relations, whow he was connected with Pilsen and opportunities for the future.
  • The flat of our site and the history of it. !

For the site the students have to design the reconstruction and a plan to reuse it.

The reconstruction is not meant to restore the space historically, it means to redesign the space in Loos’s sensibility and make modern interpretations of the missing interior.

The reuse is to transform it into a semi public space. It should be something between a club and a salon. A place for intellectual exchange and discussion. Readings, lectures and little exhibitions can happen there. The place should allow experiments with the format of »The Salon« in a contemporary version.
